March 2009 Book Club - March 21st

For March's book, we decided to read Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. I will be ordering an Audio CD version of the book and if I can find my paperback copy, I will loan that out, too.

We will meet on Saturday, March 21st at 1:00pm in the GCC Library. Please bring a snack to share.

***Would one person like to volunteer to bring a Crock Pot of something?
***Also, would another like to bring tea/coffee?
We have a Electric Water Kettle, Coffee Maker and a Microwave in the library for your use.


In April we will be reading a Book of the Bible written by the Apostle Paul. It was recommended that we read one of his epistles. Any suggests? Please comment below or e-mail me.

Then for May we will read Great Lion of God by Taylor Caldwell. This is the story of the life of St Paul, "the man who spread Christianity throughout the Roman world". Start looking for this book NOW as it is out of print and not easily found. Cobb County library has one copy but it is checked out.

Sunday's Book Club was Delightful

Thank you for all those who attending today's book club. We had a great time sharing how these two books touched us. Kleenex was passed around in great abundance! In fact, a Book Club Box of tissues has now been donated for future use.

We had a special guest -- Ruby Shepherd was invited to attend to give us her viewpoint of these prejudice issues. She told a cute story of when she was young living in New York. She came down South to visit a cousin in Virginia, I believe it was. They went to the store and Ruby being the rebel that she was (her words not mine) had bright RED hair. Some boys called out to her "Hey look at the N*#!)# with bright red hair." Ruby said she proceeded to pick up some rocks and stone those boys. Does that sound like our Ruby or what? Go Ruby!

Joan Martin said that the author of Fireflies in December -- Jennifer Erin Valent hoped that we would enjoy the book and would love to know what we thought. Joan will meet with her this week and I asked that she leave a comment for our blog. Joan will either get her e-mail address or forward our comments to Jennifer. Thanks Jennifer, we are waiting for a sequel!!!!

Several people were touched by the dedication and love of Deborah Hall and the bond that was built between Ron Hall & Denver Moore -- two totally different people from two totally different worlds.
